The Communist Manifesto
I am about to start reading it, really looking forward to finally reading some Marx.
Has anyone here read it already?

Re: The Communist Manifesto
I'm not overly interested in "Communism" but I'm sure it's a very intricate subject. What are your views on the "Communist Party Of Ireland"?
Re: The Communist Manifesto
Ireland has a Communist party?
Marx, as a thinker, had some great ideas and Communism at its root is a sound ideology. It just comes to politicians again warping such things to fit their own agendas.
So yes, the Communist Manifesto is a fairly interesting read at its core, if you don't think too far ahead into what it became. At the time, it's ideas of the proletariat finally rising up and creating a new, working class to govern was of course frightening to capitalists but Marx's theories have merit nonetheless.

Re: The Communist Manifesto
Yeah I've read it a couple of times. It can take some time to get your head around the ideas properly, so I'd recommend reading it more than once to really let it sink in. It's definately a worthwhile read though - you'll find it shocking the myths about Communism that it dispels. People say many ignorant things about Communism that if they read this book would be dispelled. So it's a good choice you've made there!

I think I have a better chance of being appointed Taoisech if I joined a more "ahem" reputable party like Fianna Fáil, so no dice....

Re: The Communist Manifesto
It's very worthwhile to read, for historical background. The problem with it "dispelling myths about communism" is that it only dispels myths with regards to Marxist communism. Of which there really aren't that many. Everyone expands on each other's ideas. If you're interested, it's probably even more worthwhile to read Trotsky's vast number of essays on the subject.
